We are a leading boutique corporate advisory firm specialising in Technology, Media and Telecommunications M&A advisory services.

For more than 15 years, we have provided independent strategic advice in more than 100 transactions with a combined value that exceeds $4.5bn to a range of clients ranging from early-stage to ASX-listed companies.

The Jacanda Capital team is made up of Principals and Special Advisors with many years experience with corporate advisory firms and investment banks. Our areas of expertise include strategic sales, mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, joint ventures, business unit divestments and capital-raising in Australia, Asia, US and Europe. 

Our industry focus is on Technology, Media, Telecommunications, and Biotechnology.

We have a strategic alliance with San Francisco based Atlas Technology Group to provide global investment banking services to Australian technology companies.

We are ASIC licensed to provide advice on financial products dealt at the wholesale market level.

Our Principals

Jay Hennock
Executive Director
B. Ec, Sydney University

Jay has over 25 years experience in investment banking, and in his own technology companies.

From 1998 to 2003 Jay was a Director and shareholder of Newport Capital Group, a technology corporate advisory and funds management group. 

In 1991, he co-founded Access Gaming Systems, which had licensees throughout Europe and Asia, and he sold his shareholding to International Game Technology in 1998. 

As Director of Corporate Services with Option Technology, Jay led a team which developed risk management systems and built a portfolio of $1.5 billion under management. Macquarie Bank acquired this business in 1991. At Bank of America he led the Financial Markets Advisory Group and prior to this, Jay worked in Corporate Finance at Citibank.

Jay's M&A technology transactions completed at Jacanda since 2006 total over $1 billion.

Philip Alexander
Executive Director
BA (Hons) Sydney University,
Dip. Corp. Mgmt (NSWIT), GAICD

Philip has spent his career in the media and technology sectors working in senior strategic, M&A, and operational roles in Australia, Europe and Asia. Since 1991, he has advised over 40 companies in M&A transactions with a combined deal value of $3.2 billion. This corporate advisory work has included capital raisings, acquisitions, IPOs, joint ventures, mergers and divestments.

From 2012-2014, he was an Executive Director at Venture Advisory, a leading TMT focused boutique investment bank with offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Singapore. Philip was a Director at Hall Capital from 2008-2012. During this period he led, or worked on over a dozen M&A transactions including buy-side or sell-side advice to Optus, Eatability, News Ltd, Fairfax, Occupancy, Sensis, Quotify, Perth iX and Vocus, as well as raising capital for Live Connected and StyleTread. He held the role of Regional Corporate Development Director for Yahoo! in South Asia for four years, a role that included observer Board seats at Seek and CarSales. Philip served as a Director of the Internet Industry Association (IIA) in Australia from 2003 until 2010, and was elected Chairman in 2005.

Philip is currently Chairman of online search marketing business, Dynamic Creative, one of Australia’s leading independent search marketing technology companies. 

Scott Anderson
Executive Director

Scott has more than 20 years' experience in advising a broad range of organisations and their owners in relation to significant equity transactions and strategic issues. Currently an executive director of Federation Capital, Scott had 8 years with Newport Capital Group where he was an executive director and shareholder, following which he ran his own corporate advisory business, Bay Capital, for several years. 

Scott is a skilled negotiator who has developed a proven capability in the creation of sound transaction structures. He has successfully led numerous transactions incorporating trade sales, divestments, acquisitions and capital raisings for organisations in a divergent range of industry sectors which include information technology (various software, hardware and services businesses), telecommunications, media, financial services, recruitment, call centres, health care, medical instruments and equipment maintenance. 

A qualified accountant, initially gaining experience in the accounting profession with Touche Ross & Co, Scott has also held senior positions within a diverse group of industry sectors including financial markets, equipment financing, electrical engineering and software development and marketing. Scott has been a regular invited speaker at the New South Wales Department of State and Regional Development's Australian Technology Showcase ("ATS") forums and seminars in the past.

David Hughes
Founder & Senior Advisor

David has over thirty years in investment banking and the financial markets with Bain & Company, County NatWest, NatWest Markets and Salomon Smith Barney. During this time he worked in M&A, corporate advisory, debt capital markets and commodity risk management. 

Prior to David's investment banking career, he spent eight years with INCO of Canada and was the founding Principal Mineral Economist for the NSW Department of Mineral Resources. 

After leaving his position as Director, Investment Banking with Salomon Smith Barney in 1999, David set up Jacanda Capital as a fully licensed securities advisory business. 

David is a previous director and chair of the Audit Committee for Country Energy and is a previous director and chair of the Audit Committee for Resource Pacific Holdings Limited, an ASX listed company.

Andrew Sandes
Senior Advisor

Andrew has fifteen years experience working in the technology and telecommunications sectors across the Asia Pacific region. Most recently Andrew was North Asia Director for Genband Inc, the world’s leading supplier of next-generation gateway technologies, covering Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong markets.

In 2003, Andrew established the Japanese and Asia Pacific operations of NexTone Communications (later NextPoint Networks) and grew it to a team of 15 staff with multi-million dollar revenues across all major telecom operators in the Asia Pacific region. In 1999, Andrew co-founded market entry service provider Asia Entry and, acting as both Marketing Director as well as Japan Director, helped more than 15 technology start-up companies successfully enter the Asia Pacific region. AsiaEntry’s diverse client base enabled Andrew to gain a deep knowledge of telecommunications solutions ranging across core routing, TDM/IP voice switching, OSS/BSS, thin client, wireless and security technologies.
