We are a leading boutique corporate advisory firm specialising in Technology, Media and Telecommunications M&A advisory services.

For over 20 years we have provided independent strategic advice in more than 140 transactions with a combined value that exceeds $5bn, to a range of clients ranging from early-stage to ASX-listed companies.

The Jacanda Capital team is made up of Principals and Special Advisors with many years experience with corporate advisory firms and investment banks. Our areas of expertise include strategic sales, mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, joint ventures, business unit divestments and capital-raising in Australia, Asia, US and Europe. 

Our industry focus is on Technology, Media, Telecommunications, and Biotechnology.

We have a strategic alliance with San Francisco based Atlas Technology Group to provide global investment banking services to Australian technology companies.

We are ASIC licensed to provide advice on financial products dealt at the wholesale market level.

Our Principals


Rob Antulov
Managing Partner
BE (Hons) UWA, MBA (Distinction) AGSM, MAICD

Rob is an experienced corporate adviser in the technology, media and digital sectors. He has over 30 years' experience in these sectors, and has participated in over 60 corporate transactions, as an adviser, executive, entrepreneur or Director. His advisory work now focuses on private company trade-sales (divestments) and acquisitions, but he also has extensive experience advising on raising growth capital for early stage, later stage and listed technology companies.

Rob has been founder or senior executive in a number of Angel, VC and/or strategic investor-funded tech start-ups. He has extensive corporate advisory experience as a Partner at Venture Advisory and Allunga Advisory. His most recent corporate role was as the Director of Strategy at Fairfax Media where he was responsible for corporate strategy, M&A activities and strategic planning. He previously held senior marketing and strategy executive roles with Coca-Cola, and was a strategy consultant with Booz & Co (now Strategy&). 

He has extensive Board experience across a range of early stage, later stage and publicly listed technology companies, and has over 20 years' Board experience with medical research, arts and social enterprise for-purpose organisations.

Rob has an MBA with Distinction from the Australian Graduate School of Management in Sydney (at the University of NSW), completed at the Kellogg GSM at Northwestern University in Chicago, and Bachelor of Engineering Degree (1st Class Honours, Elect) from the University of Western Australia.

Jay Hennock
Partner
B. Ec, Sydney University

Jay has over 25 years experience in investment banking, and in his own technology companies.

From 1998 to 2003 Jay was a Director and shareholder of Newport Capital Group, a technology corporate advisory and funds management group. 

In 1991, he co-founded Access Gaming Systems, which had licensees throughout Europe and Asia, and he sold his shareholding to International Game Technology in 1998. 

As Director of Corporate Services with Option Technology, Jay led a team which developed risk management systems and built a portfolio of $1.5 billion under management. Macquarie Bank acquired this business in 1991. At Bank of America he led the Financial Markets Advisory Group and prior to this, Jay worked in Corporate Finance at Citibank.

Jay's M&A technology transactions completed at Jacanda since 2006 total over $1 billion. 

Jay is a founding shareholder in www.rsvp.com.au and www.nuontherapeutics.com and he is currently a director of  www.zzbiotech.com and www.novapep.com.

Nathan Reay 
Special Adviser

Nathan has 20 years experience in global M&A and strategy roles both as a corporate advisor and C-Suite Executive.

Nathan spent 12 years with PwC globally, in London, Sydney and HK, during which time he advised on corporate transactions across numerous industries including; media, banking, oil & gas, infrastructure, property and private equity. Deal sizes varied from $5m USD through to $40bn USD.

Nathan subsequently spent many years in senior media C-Suite executive roles (Head of M&A AsiaPac for Bauer Media / Head of M&A and Strategy for Nova Entertainment). These roles saw Nathan lead all corporate strategy and investment / M&A decisions for the corporate owners, the Bauer and Murdoch families.

As well as completing various standalone investments and acquisitions for Bauer and Nova, Nathan was also a founding board member and sat on the investment committee of Scaleup Media Fund, the vehicle through which Murdoch owned media companies collectively invest in early stage businesses. Eight investments were completed during Nathan’s tenure with the Fund, as well as one IPO.

As part of his corporate roles, Nathan has also undertaken the CEO role of a digital media business during the 12 months of integration post acquisition and created as well as managed many operational partnerships in a range of diverse sectors including audio, esports and events.

Nathan has experience sitting on a range of media, technology and charity boards.

Michael Gethen
Special Advisor


Michael has been based in Singapore since 2011, and he has extensive expertise and transaction experience in the Asia Pacific region in the technology, media and commerce sectors, particularly in the FinTech, Enterprise Software/SaaS, Consumer Internet, Marketplaces, AdTech/MarTech and Internet of Things sectors.  Michael’s recent transactions include:
  • Raising of US$30.0 million for a fintech and payments technology company (VN, confidential)
  • Sale of Sprooki to ASX-listed technology group Invigor Group Ltd (A$10.0 million) 
  • Raising of S$5.2 million for Sprooki (SG)
  • Raising of A$15.0 million for Brandscreen (AU/SG)
  • Raising of S$12.0 million for MyCube (SG)
  • Raising of A$6.0 million for CommunityEngine (AU)

His strategic industry experience as a corporate advisor and non-executive Board director is supplemented by direct operational experience in CEO and general management roles, and as a successful entrepreneur who has built and sold a mobile commerce, data analytics & proximity marketing software platform. 

Michael has worked for media companies, technology companies, boutique corporate finance firms and major listed companies including Fairfax Media and Honeywell Corporation. He holds an MBA and a Masters of Management from the Macquarie Graduate School of Management.

Our Senior Advisors

David Hughes
Founder & Senior Advisor


David has over thirty years in investment banking and the financial markets with Bain & Company, County NatWest, NatWest Markets and Salomon Smith Barney. During this time he worked in M&A, corporate advisory, debt capital markets and commodity risk management. 

Prior to David's investment banking career, he spent eight years with INCO of Canada and was the founding Principal Mineral Economist for the NSW Department of Mineral Resources. 

After leaving his position as Director, Investment Banking with Salomon Smith Barney in 1999, David set up Jacanda Capital as a fully licensed securities advisory business. 

David is a previous director and chair of the Audit Committee for Country Energy and is a previous director and chair of the Audit Committee for Resource Pacific Holdings Limited, an ASX listed company.

Andrew Sandes
Senior Advisor


Andrew has fifteen years experience working in the technology and telecommunications sectors across the Asia Pacific region. Most recently Andrew was North Asia Director for Genband Inc, the world’s leading supplier of next-generation gateway technologies, covering Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Hong Kong markets.

In 2003, Andrew established the Japanese and Asia Pacific operations of NexTone Communications (later NextPoint Networks) and grew it to a team of 15 staff with multi-million dollar revenues across all major telecom operators in the Asia Pacific region. In 1999, Andrew co-founded market entry service provider Asia Entry and, acting as both Marketing Director as well as Japan Director, helped more than 15 technology start-up companies successfully enter the Asia Pacific region. AsiaEntry’s diverse client base enabled Andrew to gain a deep knowledge of telecommunications solutions ranging across core routing, TDM/IP voice switching, OSS/BSS, thin client, wireless and security technologies.

Stuart Bensley
Senior Advisor


Stuart has over thirty years international experience as a Senior Executive with BHP Billiton, a Vice President of BHP Petroleum – Energy Market Development, the Regional Managing Director of British Gas (Asia Pacific), President of PT Brown& Root Indonesia, Managing Director of Taylor Diving S.E.Asia, a senior Manager with Halliburton USA/UK and an engineer with Cleveland Bridge. His experience includes significant offshore, marine and sub-sea operations as well as the development and implementation of energy infrastructure projects. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer - CPEng in Australia. Stuart is currently the Chairman of Oceanlinx Ltd, an Australian wave to energy and clean water conversion company and is the founder of Bensley & Associates Pty Ltd. Stuart is on the Boards of Sunshine Youth Junction Inc and The Australian Council of Child and Youth Organisations Inc. He is a founding and active member of the Society for Underwater Technology, Melbourne.

Carl Clump
Senior Advisor


Carl Clump has experience of being the CEO of a public listed company on the London Stock Exchange, an AIM listed company, a private equity backed company and two startups, as well as being Group Managing Director for a Private Equity backed entity. He is currently the chairman of FBME Card Services, the cards and payment division of a European Private Bank. He is the non-executive Chairman of MillionPlus Private Finance (Asia), a specialist private finance consultancy. Additionally, he is on the advisory boards of Greenings International and Sprooki. In 2000, Carl founded Retail Decisions, an international card issuing and fraud prevention company, with many of the world’s leading brands as customers. He was the Chief Executive from 2000 until 2011 and he retired as the company’s Group Chairman in March 2013. Prior to Retail Decisions, Carl was the Chief Executive of Card Clear plc., an AIM listed company involved in payments, card issuing, loyalty, currency exchange and fraud prevention. He spent 13 years with Texaco, where he served in a series of roles in Retail Management, Logistics and Finance.
